PERCUSSION

Bill Richards, a native of Pottstown, Pa. is an active percussionist in the Washington, DC/Baltimore area. Following graduation from Temple University he joined The United States Army Band in Washington and performed as solo percussionist and section leader for 20 years. He now performs frequently with the Washington National Opera, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Washington Symphonic Brass. Bill also performs with many chamber music ensembles in the area and has premiered several pieces. Musical theatre has also been part of his varied musical career including the world premiere of Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Whistle Down the Wind in 1996 at the National Theatre in Washington. Bill has also been a successful teacher of young percussionists. His students have graduated from many of the finest music schools in the country and can be heard professionally with many orchestras throughout the United States. He credits his own success to the many fine teachers he has worked with including William J. Schinstine, Glenn Steele, Alan Abel, Ron Barnett and Tony Ames.
