IGNACIO ALCOVER
Ignacio Alcover, born in Barcelona,is a member of the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra (Heinz Fricke, music director) and the Washington Opera (Placido Domingo, artistic director). In addition he is artistic director of )musica(aperta. This ensemble creates and performs concerts mixed with theater, movement and multimedia. Its first show Re:new was premiered in Washington with great critical success. As part of the Washington Shakespeare Festival )musica (aperta’s next production: “Six Degrees of Hamlet” and is scheduled for June 2007 to be presented at the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington DC.
Ignacio Alcover has appeared in recital in Barcelona’s Palau de la Musica (broadcast by Radio Television Espanola), Madrid’s Teatro Real, Aix-en Provence recorded by France Musique, Toronto, Boston, New York, Baltimore, San Francisco, and on American Public Radio. He was the soloist in the Boston Premiere of Henri Dutilleux ’s ”...Tout un Monde Lointain…” for cello and orchestra. He has recorded for Centaur Records and fot the 4-TAY label. Recitals in the Far East include a benefit concert for the Chaiyaprur Foundation for Children in Bangkok, and under the auspices of the United States Information Agency in Vientiane in the Socialist Republic Laos.
In Barcelona he was a member of the Grup Instrumental Catala, a contemporary and theater music ensemble in residence at the Funcacio Joan Miro. The group was responsible for more than 20 premieres during their monthly series at the museum, as well as broadcasts for radio and television and performances at the Barcelona and Berlin International Festivals.
Pursuing his interest in the theater and the mix of different artistic media, Mr. Alcover has collaborated with actor Fermi Reixach, to create and perform the two man show “Un Home Apassionat”. The work established a dialogue between texts of catalan poetry and music mostly composed by I. Alcover. Critically acclaimed by the press, it was described by the Diario de Barcelona as ”...an authentic and marvelous appeal to the intelligence and sensitivity…” First performed at the Teatre LLiure in Barcelona, the show went on to performances in Madrid’s Teatro Colon, Boston Public Library and New York’s Carnegie Recital Hall.
Mr. Alcover has been awarded scholarships from the Fundacion Juan March de Madrid, National Endowment for the Arts thorough Boston University, and a Fullbright grant thorough the Spanish-U.S Joint Committee for Cultural Affairs. He recently was awarded La Cruz de Oficial de la Orden de Isabel la Catolica by King Juan Carlos I of Spain.
